Y.B. Lim Guan Eng, Please Kick Streamyx Out From Penang!

First of all, congratulations to Y.B. Lim Guan Eng for winning the trust of Penangites and earning the coveted position of Chief Minister. Thank you for breaking the Barisan Nasional's hegemony over our state but our residents are still miserably plagued with one ugly BN legacy – Streamyx. Unfortunately no elections can get rid of this one.

Streamyx is what you get when you have decades of first world ambition and third word service. A service like BN, takes criticisms like a punching bag and acts like a douche bag, ignores it like there's nothing wrong. No clarification, no apology, no compensation, absolutely no quality at all.

So what is the perfect alternative for Streamyx's startlingly slow snail speed services? It isn't corporations like Maxis nor Celcom and their wireless services. The answer lies in Penang's own backyard - PenangFON. Yes, we already have a Penang-based broadband company but it's limited to several dozen apartments and condominiums in Penang. All it needs now is extra investment so that they can provide broadband throughout the entire island! Just help them attract some foreign investment or pour some of Penang's state funds into PenangFON. Watch them expand their coverage and I swear you'll see swarms of disgruntled Penangites abandoning Streamyx like a sinking ship.

P.S. The reason why I wrote this post was because a portion of Penang Streamyx users were disconnected for two days without rhyme nor reason. I'm still pissed.

  4. I'm curious on how ethics are online, especially on how people behave when they see an offending message.

Truth be told, as a Malaysian, Pay Per Post, you disgust me, so does Anon here, really, would you prefer Streamyx? What has Streamyx did that considered great? Sure they did broadband, was it very much like the ones in Singapore? Or Thailand? I get disconnected very often during peak times, weird download and upload ratios, not to mention unable to connect on some time!

And recently in my area, they're moving for a 2MB line, well like Andy said, first world ambition, third world crapo services. Investing in a private company is better than investing in a moneygrabbing corporation who only wants more money than providing great services for users, they oughta be sued by consumer associations.

  5. Ok, first i would like to say i myself was affected by the outage of the internet service, well few friends, my place, greenlane, my friends' place jelutong, minden.
as far as i know these places were affected. and guess what ? It seems the outage was caused by MAINTENANCE. just what are they trying to do ? 2 days just for maintenance ? Can't you be more efficient ?

let me give my experience of using streamyx. Well first time i installed streamyx i had a waiting period of like nearly ONE MONTH. just to let the tm people come to check my line get the modem then later find out there were some technical problems and then called a sub-contractor then delayed due to lack of compatible modems. That was 2004.

At first i was rather happy using streamyx since it was so called unlimited bandwidth and the price was affordable. Well though my dad's the one paying, i would feel kinda guilty if it was too expensive.

ok, well the first year i used it there was no problem with things, loading, streaming, ftp downloads, p2p was at 50 kb/s and i was using a 512 kbps line for rm 88.

Then it seems this company started to mass market and more and more people applied, then i just could not ignore the drop of quality of service, loading of pages seemed slower, streaming sometimes a pain in the ass. I would like to leave out the p2p part....imagine 1kb/s and if im REALLY lucky 40 kb/s for a file with so many seeds and peers ???

Then i heard rumors, it seems the company capped p2p networks.
Second rumor, it seems that the company took in more and more clients and used our bandwidth to feed the newer users without our knowledge. Technically like i said it was a rumor and if someone could prove this, just FUCKIN SUE THE COMPANY ALREADY.

    year 2007
Now i've upgraded to a 1 mbps at rm 77 per month. (dynamic IP)
and now i've gained a little experience over using the internet and my router settings.

I was satisfied with my p2p download of 150 kb/s. Makes sense to me devide 1000kbps with 8 to get kb/s.

But then things started to look a little ugly, i just could not notice that the quality of the service is not consistent.
So i did a little testing on my router. and i found out that not every IP address gives me good speed. Regardless of streaming, http browsing or sometimes even IMing.

    I noticed that the
    60.xx.xx.xx (2 digit ip)
gave me good browsing speed, streaming, and sometimes p2p

    others like

124.xx.xxx.xx or so gives me mediocre standard.

    ips with

60.xx.xxx.xx or 3 digits somewhere in the xxx gives me totally CRAP.

10 minutes to load a 2 minute video on youtube, constant disconnection from IMs, page loading like a 56k.

JUST WHAT IS THIS BULL SHIT ?

and 1 more thing to comment, what's with the speedometer in the TM website ? it always say i have speed im supposed to have even with bad ips. I highly doubt.

    Just my point of view.

Let's say the government was and is biased. They are not giving enough chances to other ISPs,

just look at penangfon, they are applying for the government to approve them to provide service coverage. and for tm ? they can do what they want anywhere as long there is a phone socket.

    Is this fair ???
well, perhaps the government and that SCAMYX would say yes.

As for the unstable penang fon issue, well i myself think that penang fon needs fair opportunities . well not just penang fon.
There should be a fair and right chance for every ISP to provide their service, perhaps in the future as well.

as for you, pay per post, what do you mean by communist telephone company ? picture it this way, ok if the company u mentioned is a communist company, the phone company i and almost everyone that is CONSCIOUS is a DictatorshiT company ruled by baboons with the golden backing of some money hungry administrators, nothing else.

hahaha ! First world vision, third world service, hahha ! DAMN RIGHT!
you should write to the star.

and ok, pay per post and anonymous,
i have a few comments. you two are just utter garbage.

oh and what's wrong with penangites ? unless your penis got accidentally removed by a penang doctor, if so i would like to thank the doctor for rendering you the way you should be. lol

  6. Hi,

somewhat good post, i agree about Streamyx, I don;t think I can one person in Msia who uses streamyx who doesn't agree with you.

But please, have you ever heard of user friendly website?

The color of your texts is almost the same with ur background. Esp the comments part. Very hard to read. To not irritate your readers, you stud really consider changing the colors used.

    Just a suggestion.

  7. Hi anonymous, thanks for the feedback. The comments text part just slipped my mind. I usually take user-friendliness seriously for websites.

  9. Anonymous, how are we supposed to be tolerant when Streamyx offers such a bad service? You can drop the act, I know that you're living in BN territory and you're insulted at the BN-Streamyx comparison.

I've been tolerant towards your stupid rantings. Turn off your damn caps lock and start talking like you have a brain. If you don't do so, I swear I'll delete your next comment.
